Worlds 2022 Blog: Day 2 (Group C)
My second day of Worlds was much more chill than day 1! As mentioned, I was cheering for DRX today because I really love Deft (I also love his teammates haha they’re wonderful especially Zeka but I’m a huge Deft fan <3).
Going to write the teams here since I have friends reading this who don’t watch LoL esports.
Rogue (RGE)- EU 1st place
Top Esports (TES) - CN 2nd place
GAM - Vietnam 1st place
DRX- KR 4th place
Also, I’m gonna be honest I didn’t do the BEST job paying close attention to the games today…
Alpaca Diff!! Deft is my absolute favorite non-LCS player ever.
Anyway, I decided not to bring my Deft sign today because of the scare yesterday and hearing more stories from people about having to throw their signs away. I just didn’t want to risk that, and it’s a hassle to carry around, and I’m sitting too far back to be shown anyway. It’s no big deal, I still enjoyed making this. I haven’t drawn Deft in years, so I was really excited to try after a long time. He’s a cutie <3
If anyone cares, this is the last drawing I ever made of Deft in 2019. I did it as part of inktober, it was also his bday :D
I was a little late to Worlds today since I went to the MET with my parents in the morning, but I got some free Deft goodies from @Jxyeah97 on my way into the venue!! I love them!! Deft fans are goated <3

Rogue vs GAM was underway when I got to my seat. I sort of felt like it seemed louder today than yesterday. One funny thing I remember is some person behind me randomly saying “Yeaah we love Europeans!” during the game lol.
The next game was GAM vs TES. GAM are heavy underdogs in this group, being the “minor region” team. So I didn’t expect this game to be such a banger!! The fights were amazing, it kept going back-and-forth. Eventually GAM got dragon soul but it still felt close. And then miraculously, Jackeylove stole Elder dragon, and TES wiped most of GAM, and it looked like they were going to end the game! They came like 2-3 nexus hits away from ending the game, but then the respawning GAM members managed to kill off all of TES, pulling off a miraculous base defense!! (With the help of Levi’s Karthus! I don’t think any other champion could have saved the game there…) And then they COUNTER ENDED!! The hype and energy inside the theater at that time was insane!! We were all screaming, haha. This was GAM’s first and only win of the tournament, but it was such a fun one!
But also seriously what were those G-A-M chants?? I thought we were chanting TSM at first 😭😭 is this really how we’re supposed to chant for them? XDD
After that game, I went out to the lobby to find Travis Gafford (for my non-esports friends, he is a pretty significant content creator who has been making LCS interviews and content ever since the LCS became a thing! He’s the one who sponsored our NAmen Podcast :D). He had mentioned on Twitter that he would like stickers and told me I could find him out there since he was going to be doing an interview.
In that hallway, I happened to run into @BasedLPLEnjoyer and gave him some stickers. He was pretty nice irl, I hope you had a great time today bro!!
i was just awkwardly standing around while the interview was happening askdjskd lowkey I was nervous because it’s like.. OMG A CELEBRITY!! IRL!! I’ve been watching his stuff for years !!
I approached Travis after the interview and he was really chill and friendly!! He was like, I’m sorry you had to wait so long, and I was like nah it’s fine! I gave him a sticker of every NA worlds player (hopefully I didn’t accidentally miss any) and then we took some pictures!
I can’t believe he called our little podcast the “premiere LCS podcast”… I’m so thankful for the support😭😭 In person, he even said he’ll keep listening it, and he told me to keep up the great content TT it really means a lot!
I made it back in time to watch DRX vs Rogue, the game had just started! It was DRX’s first game of the day and I was hyped up to watch my favorite non-NA team play! And they got a nice win, even with BeryL busting out the support Heimerdinger which was pretty fun!
The next game was DRX vs GAM! It felt like the crowd really wanted a GAM win (everyone loves a minor region upset, right?) And I’m glad GAM fought their hardest! But I was really happy to watch DRX win this game since that locked their quarterfinals spot (top 2 finish in the group)! This also eliminated TES from quarterfinals contention, sadly for LPL fans. So- Rogue and DRX are going to quarterfinals. TES and GAM are out.
I went to grab dinner after this game and I also took a picture with @basedamanda one of my twitter friends!! It was really nice to meet her!! WE ARE REPPING EG ON A DAY WITH NO NA TEAMS, BABY😎
TES, already eliminated from the tournament, went on to angry stomp the next two games! They stomped Rogue and DRX!
For TES vs DRX, the last "scheduled” game of the day, a lot of seats were empty, so I moved closer a bit!
They interviewed Jackeylove and he seemed sad TT. I have a bit of a soft spot for Jackeylove, and he’s a legend! I hope he’s feeling okay.
TES beating DRX meant I had to stay one more hour to watch the tiebreaker for first place between Rogue and DRX, who were both now 4-2! At this point, a LOT of people left, so I moved super close to the front! I could actually see the DRX players’ faces, which was mind-boggling, and the screen was huge!! Plus, I’m pretty sure I might have been sitting by a DRX fansite, because the girl had a huge camera with a really long lens!
Another funny little story: during the short pause in this game over Trymbi’s mouse issue, someone randomly started a “LET’S GO C9!” chant (C9 is an NA team that isn’t playing today, in fact they already finished their last games on Thursday). I thought that was hilarious, so I joined in!
And a funny little anecdote about the casters, who were in the top right!
see the casters in the top right? You can really tell how invested they get in the game! They’re swaying, making hand motions, looking at each other, leaning super far into the screen, etc! Normally, watching at home, I only get to hear their voices during games, so it was pretty neat to be able to see the actual people during the game!
DRX pulled out a really nice win to secure 1st place in the group!! Afterwards, they got Deft for the interview! I was so excited when I saw him walk back out for the interview, and I moved even closer to the front along with other Deft fans (presumably. I think most other people left by this point.) It was amazing to be so CLOSE to Deft. He’s really a sweetheart, a really kind soul, and very skilled player. And I hope he can go far in this Worlds.
can i just mention that DRX has been absolutely monster gigasmurf mode ever since they did the jersey exchange with EG ?? 🤔🤔🤔

Afterwards, I finally went back to the hotel and chilled. I really enjoyed this day of worlds, maybe it was less stressful because of no North American teams playing and the fact that I got to see DRX do really well.
I also had a bunch more people find me today to get stickers!! Everyone was so nice, it’s really nice to meet all of you!! Hope everyone likes the stickers!!

Okay, I think that’s it for today! Tomorrow will be my last day, I’ll be proudly rooting for 100 Thieves! And chugging the last NA Hopium! A miracle can always happen, right?
