Worlds 2022 Blog: Day 0
Hey guys! I’m hoping to write some daily blogs about my experiences attending the LoL World Championship group stage this year, my first esports event EVER 😳
This is day 0 because I didn't go to worlds today, I just flew to NYC from Seattle. So there's not too much to say.
Like, I pulled a jojopyun and stayed up to 4AM the night before flying cuz I'm dumb 😭 in the end it's alright though, I was somehow not thaaat tired. I got up at like 9:30 and packed some of the last things and ate breakfast, then we left for the airport. (I'm going with parents, but they are not going to the games, they're just gonna do sightseeing on their own. Extremely grateful to them for being willing to take me here T-T. I also really owe it to my friends @sharkswithlasers, @decemberoli, and @lcsmirakkel for convincing me to try going to worlds in NA this year, I still can barely believe this is actually happening. Can we get lcs finals or international LoL tournament in seattle someday? :3)
Right when we got to the airport, I got a text notifying me that the flight was delayed by 2 hours. So we were just chilling at the gate for 4 hours. I was watching the Worlds games on my phone and I saw Cloud9 stomp Fnatic in game 1 of the day, which was super hype. Especially because this was NA’s first win of the tournament! Sadly, their Worlds run fell short after their following loss to EDG.
I couldn’t watch Cloud9’s last game (vs T1) live because that's when I actually had to fly. (They lost though, rip.) On the plane, I wrote some stuff and then took a nap. When I woke up, I didn't feel like writing stories anymore, but I couldn't go back to sleep… so I was like, let me get a head start on my blog post instead… then I didn't know what to so after that, so I started writing an appreciation post for Inspired just like the one I wrote for jojopyun… (maybe I'll finish that after worlds…)
So we landed at 12:30 am EST ish and it was raining here. Interestingly, this is the first time in my whole life I've ever been in the EST time zone. Solidarity with my EST besties, finally, even if just for a few days ;D (PST is still superior though sadly). Got to the hotel and I’m pretty tired but I wrote some cards for EG. Theoretically, I should be able to get them to the boys even if I'm not able to actually see them tomorrow? We'll find out, I guess :P
Tomorrow I am also bringing these two EG signs and my NCT Lightstick. While watching the broadcast, we noticed someone holding a Twice lightstick in the crowd so that’s how I got the idea. NCT is green and EG is green (their jerseys lol😭) so it works. (stan NCT, my fave kpop group) I made a ton of stickers because I wanted to make sure everyone who wants one can get one. I'll just sell the leftover stickers when I get home, since some people asked me about that.
I know we joke a lot about sign buff/ superfan buff/ whatever, but honestly me being there or not isn’t making any actual impact on game outcomes. I'll just try my best to enjoy my first esports event, support the boys proudly, and pray for some wins. I definitely believe in the boys, they are super capable and I honestly think it just comes down to confidence and keeping cool under pressure. Worlds is a lot of pressure and I'm proud of all of our teams for trying their best here.
Lastly, I just think it's totally crazy that I bought the worlds tickets before group draw occurred and I lucked out with managing to get 3 days that 3 of my favorite teams play (EG, DRX, 100T). EG making it out of play-ins wasn't even certain, but I just went for it anyway. When they beat MAD 3-0 last week to qualify for groups, I was so ecstatic haha. Somehow this blind faith worked out, I guess?
